A Wednesday: Movie Review

A Wednesday: Movie ReviewIt was a Friday when I saw ‘A Wednesday‘ (pun intended?). I would like to call it the clash of the titans! Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah giving a stupefying performance in this so engrossing film, A Wednesday. With terrorism as a backdrop, the film talks about an aam aadmi, or should I say, the stupid common man’s predicament in this volatile environment. What comes out of it, his strength and courage.

A Wednesday is about a call on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm to the Chief Commissioner of Police Prakash Rathod (Anupam Kher) about bombs being placed in the city which will go off at 6 pm. The caller (Naseeruddin Shah) demands the release of 4 militants, in return of which, he’ll disclose the locations of the bombs. Rathod, suspects this to be a crank call, but backtracks after a bomb is found in the police station, right opposite his headquarters. Being a man of his position he gathers his best resources to quickly crack this case. Tapping phone calls, young hackers, and the ever so there-before-it-happens media van keeps you on the edge of your seats.

Naseeruddin Shah’s performance is simply outstanding and can be considered as one of his best. Anupam Kher is equally remarkable with his cold face on the mind bender situation, top-notch! Jimmy Shergill’s character has hit the nail on the head and seems fit for the job. He plays this shot tempered cop Arif. The background score has been given by Sanjay Chowdhury, which is outstanding and adds to the thrills.

Coming to Neeraj Pandey, the man who joined the club of amazing debutant directors today, he has astounded his audience. Neeraj Pandey’s execution has left everyone flabbergasted! A Wednesday is not a typical Bollywood entertainer but is cinema at its best with a big punch!

Do watch this film!
