Billoo Barber starts cutting…

Priyadarshan must be one happy camper these days. After a gazillion actresses turned down the role because it wasn’t ‘meaty’ enough (read ‘no item numbers’), the desperate and brave Lara Dutta has taken on the task of playing the female lead in ‘Billoo Barber’.

The movie, produced by SRK is a black comedy, something rarely attempted in the industry. It will have Irrfan Khan playing the barber and Shah Rukh will play himself. It is a story of childhood friends one who goes on to be uber rich and one who unluckily remains penniless. As usual, Priyan is adapting it from one of his Southern Blockbusters. This time it’s the critically acclaimed hit: ‘Katha Parayumbol’ (While telling the story).

In a recent interview Irrfan Khan, excitedly stated that he is really looking forward to work with Shah Rukh and Lara, both of whom he’s never worked with before. But I seriously wonder if a director like Priyadarshan who is more popular for his brainless slapstick comedies like Dhol and Hera Pheri, will be able to carry off such a heavy subject. Let’s wait and watch eh?
