Out of Fashion

Fashion choreographer Achla Sachdev has been receiving a lot of flak for her decision to act in Madhur Bhandarkar’s latest expose enigmatically titled…Fashion. The reason why he’s chosen Achla and not some B-town show pony is in order to make the movie seem authentic. I’m coming to think that Madhur will jump at anything as long as it’s based on real events. His next venture is called Jail. I wonder what thats about.

Haven’t we seen enough of this brand of movie-making? Everybody’s tired, just tell a decent story for once, and not just repeat yourself film after film after film. No prizes for guessing what this one’s about. Someone gets into the industry, snorts some cocaine, walks some ramp, has a wardrobe malfunction and there….we have yet another Madhur Bhandarkar expose which tells you what you knew since you were twelve and goes nowhere by the end of it.

I don’t even know why people in the fashion industry are calling Achla and giving her a lecture about this movie. It’s not like it’s going to change anything. I can only hope Bhandarkar runs out of steam sometime but I wouldn’t count on it. Don’t be surprised if the next driver or gardener you hire looks a lot like that weird director guy you saw on tv the other day; he’s obviously desperate for stories.
