The global success of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight seems to have given directors at home a great reason to make their own superhero flick. The man who’s stepped up to the plate this time is Anurag Kashyap. His next awkward fashion statement of a movie (see No Smoking), will be based on the Raj Comics character Doga, an abused orphan who turns crusader in a dog mask by night. So you’d expect someone intense and psychotic to play it right? Someone dark and enigmatic? Well, the role is going to Kunal Kapoor. There you have it. Kunal Kapoor. So which junior college girl was it again who cast this one? Bollywood is no newcomer to bad casting but this is just terrible. You might as well have approached Shah Rukh Khan! But all said and done, the character Doga doesn’t seem all that bad. With a costume change and a good villian, it might just be worth a try. The last foray into this genre of film, Krrish, was unforgivable. So Anurag doesn’t have to do much to go one up. A home video of my brother jumping off the dresser onto the bed would be going one up, let alone a whole movie. So lets hope Kunal Kapoor can pull off being a little edgier than just another a$$hole who spends most of his time in the gym or in front of his mirror, trying hard to be athletic but just ending up being hilariously clumsy. That being said, there’s precious little we can do to change things from here. All we can do now is wait and watch…
