With Rock On, director Farhan Akhtar makes his debut not only as an actor but as a singer too. And not a bad one at that. His slightly raspy voice is a welcome change from the usual bunch of pitch-perfect trained voices. The soundtrack is all out rock and roll, with guitar riffs, solos and drums and all that jazz…oops rock! Shankar Ehsaan Loy seem to be more at home composing this rather than their regular run of the mill work. You can feel that spirit in the album. Farhan sings on 5 different tracks on the album. Of which Rock On, Socha Hai? and Pichchle Saat Dinon Mein are definite chart-busters. The title song seems very Bryan Adams inspired. Not bad though… Socha Hai has some good lyrics (Javed Akhtar). But the third track beats ‘em all ! Crazy lyrics, a very catchy riff and good singing will have this song stuck in your head for a long time. Tum to ho and Phir Dekhiye are strictly okay. They’re both soft numbers that add a mellow touch to the album. Zahreeley is an awful track. Trying to make a heavier track, the composers end up making intolerable noise. All in all, the album is great! Listen to it on Desimad Music now, ‘cuz later you’ll definitely be buying the album!
